Philipp Hermes has expertise in international maritime and marine finance, maritime insurances and ship construction matters, in contentious and non-contentious affairs. He is interested in the global and regional correlation between the different maritime and marine sectors. Philipp Hermes is advising the private maritime industries, e.g. banks, insurance companies, shipping companies, ship construction companies in Europe and elsewhere. He is also offering advices to the public marine sector.
Philipp Hermes is a lawyer qualified in German law in 2008. He was working with Ehlermann Rindfleisch Gadow in Hamburg, a law firm specialised in ship finance, and was advising banks in the structured financing of ships which also included special finance models outside Germany. In 2013 he joined Johann M. K. Blumenthal GmbH & Co. KG as General Counsel. Philipp Hermes set up Bureau Hermes Maritime (BHM) in November, 2013, and established together with Henry Page BHM Penlaw EWIV – EEIG in April 2014.
Philipp Hermes is naval officer (reserve) and legal advisor with NATO Centre of Excellence for Operations in Confined and Shallow Waters. He is offering legal consultancy to federal ministries in Germany with regard to maritime issues. He regularly contributes columns to World Economy.
